Complete beginners are able to attend this course without any previous massage qualifications – It is accredited by the Complementary Medical Association & on successful completion, you will qualify as an Indian Head Massage Practitioner enabling you to work with the general public charging for your service. This qualification allows you to obtain insurance – a prerequisite before practising.
Course Outline.
By the end of the two day course, students will be confident in carrying out the IHM routine & be able to recognise when and when not to treat, as well as adapting the treatment to suit the individual needs of the client. You will also gain an understanding of the standards of professional care and conduct expected of you in the work place.
Many courses are offered on a One Day basis & if the prior experience of students enables us to do this, courses will be organised accordingly.
As groups are small, plenty of time and attention for detail and support is given.An essential factor in helping you to become confident practioners of Indian Head Massage.
Learning will be through Practical & Theoretical work; Q&A; Evidence of 10 treatments & 1 consultation form for submission on practical test date.
Students will achieve this by covering through their practical work:
Preparation of work station
Hygiene of practitioner and client
Carrying out a consultation & visual assessment of client.
Massage routine broken down into sections of :
- Shoulders, Back & Arms
- Neck
- Hair & Scalp
- Face
Time given to practise and receive guidance on pressure, techniques used in massage- allowing you to gain confidence in putting the routine together gradually.
Through the theoretical work, these are some of the areas students will cover:
The history of IHM and its benefits.
Contra-indications
A&P of the neck, shoulders, back, face, hair.
Specific look at the structure & function of skin and conditions specific to the skin.
Hair types.
Cancer clients – working with them and considerations.
Alopecia – what it is and working with it.
Business conduct –
Client / Practitioner relationship.
Confidentiality of client – record keeping, storage of, ‘keeping your counsel’
Code of ethics – list for guidance.
A comprehensive workbook will be provided for students covering in detail the above areas as well as many more key points. A useful source to keep for future reference.
